God is interested in the journey.
Lent is about joining God where God is in his journey, which is in His mission. In other words, Lent is an invitation. To what? What is the invitation?
This is the invitation: Luke 9:23-24. This is an invitation to life, living life, to an adventure, and to what it means to be the greatest. What is the greatest? Uggh: to serve. To serve because it is the right thing to do, not because of some cosmic reward or scoring points to win some cosmic kuwpie doll. This is hard and difficult; I get ugly when I serve and nobody notices. I know God notices but others in my life.
What if God's unconditional love, is only the tip of the iceberg? What if there is more? What if we only find out when we surrender? What if surrender is accepting the invitation? Surrender is the act of giving oneself up into the power of another. That means relinquishing control, position, and prestige (wanting to be noticed). Uggh.
